Dear PAAJAF Friends,

We believe that any barrier can be overcome and should not prevent a person from realizing future aspirations. Our strategy is, we utilise the skills and experiences of our volunteers, staff and the support from our sponsors to provide Adolescents and Adults jobs for Advancement in Future through education and skills training. 

PAAJAF appreciates your support a lot since 2008 to today of this report, YOU have been our backbone and generous DONOR. Your support has moved PAAJAF to our current stage from 5 adults who were receiving adult literacy education in our community. It extended 60 students in Gbawe community who received after school program, Greater Accra Region and 60 students also at Bensa in Bron Ahalfo Region.  Now what your donation is still doing? 

Surprisingly, it didn’t stop there as the only impact. It is really making impact in the lives of 145 children as of today by giving quality education, improve the health and social conditions of our entire student in our school, transform people’s attitude, increase their self-esteem, and promote the sense of inclusiveness in the society. Education is the source of the successful future for us and our next generation. 

Currently we are supporting 145 student now in our school by giving them a scholarship education, so what now? We would like to present to you the phase two of the project to help us to maintain these vulnerable children to receive good and quality education. So how would you help? We will need your help as you have been in aid to the completion of the phase one. Please we salute you all! 

The phase two we have it in two sections: operational support to maintain the current 145 students, and add more to it also. Paying of salary of the teachers in the school, support the underprivileged children in the community under scholarship fund – who could not attend the PAAJAF school – who are in upper class.

This project is helping PAAJAF to secure a land to start building of permanent school for the children that we support 320 students annually in the PAAJAF community. Currently our school is in a rented premises and it is too expenses that we couldn’t afford it and the Landlord has always been increasing and increasing it. GREETINGS

From the PEI administration, we send our heartfelt greetings to all our students, staff, parents, and communities – both local and international.

Once again, we thank the Almighty God for His protection and welcome you all to our weekly update at PAAJAF Educational Institute and the PAAJAF Foundation. Since we are in the 8th week of the academic term, this update covers both week 7 and week 8.

We are always pleased to share what goes on at PEI with you and welcome your thoughts and feedback as well. If you have any concerns, please share them with us. We would be happy to address them.

 

STORIES

A Quick Recap of Week 7

The children in the Sunflower class (aged 2 – 3 years) and the Morning Glory class (aged 3 – 4 years) continued to practice writing lower case alphabets from ‘a’ to ‘w’, and forming two- and three-letter sounds with vowels ‘a’ and ‘e’ such as ‘as’, ‘an’, ‘am’, ‘me, and ‘he’.

We also held an activity in movement exploration through which the children learnt how to dress according to their tribes’ customs. To read the full story, please visit this link.

 

Week 8 in Review

Last week, the children in the Sunflower class (aged 2 – 3 years) were able to orally count numbers from 0 – 50, identify numbers from 0 – 20, and write numbers from 0 – 12.

The Morning Glory class (aged 3 – 4 years) practiced writing lower case alphabets from ‘w’ to ‘z’ last week. Since they practiced writing from ‘a’ to ‘w’ the week before, they have completed writing lower case alphabets from ‘a’ to ‘z’ during the last two weeks (18th February to 1st March, 2019). Now, they have started to combine both upper and lower case letters, like ‘Aa’, ‘Bb’, ‘Cc’, etc.

Our teachers, Miss Sandra Amu and Miss Susana Amoakowa, also taught their respective nursery classes (Sunflower and Morning Glory) basic health routines (like brushing teeth and washing hands), colouring fruits and vegetables, and the many uses of plants.

 

The children from the kindergarten classes, Pansy and Carnation (aged 4 – 6 years), read 3- to 6-letter word sentences and practiced the phonic sounds ‘wh’ and ‘er’ during their language activities. During their activities in mathematics, environment, creative art, and religious and moral studies, the children learnt about shapes, domestic animals, keeping our environment clean, and clay modelling.

 

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK – A Visit from Health Personnel

Two health professionals from a Ghana Health Service in Ga South District visited our school to give the PEI staff and students an informative talk on healthcare. It was a useful course on taking care of our bodies as well as our environment.

GREETINGS

Once again, we express gratitude towards our Almighty God, and welcome all our students, staff, parents, community, and international friends to the 7th week of the second academic term. Following our weekly routine, we now bring you an update on the 6th week, which ended on February 15, 2019.

 

STORIES

A Quick Recap of Week 5

Since our headmistress, Ms. Joyceline, also conducts classes, she narrated an interesting story to the Carnation class (aged 5 – 6 years) in week 5. Week 6 in Review (11 -15 February 2019)

In week 6, the Carnation class continued their creative artwork by making sculptures through sand casting. You can watch a video of this here.

 

We also taught lessons on the roles of parents, family, and members of the community. For our mathematical activities, we explored the measurement of height, and for our language classes, we studied phonic consonant sounds ‘wh’ and ‘th’.

The Sunflower and Morning Glory classes (children aged 2 – 3 and 3 – 4 years respectively) continued their writing of lower-case alphabets from ‘a’ to ‘w’. In phonics, they learnt how to form two and three letters sounds with vowels ‘a’ and ‘e’, such as ‘an’, ‘am’, ‘me’, and ‘he’.

We also held an activity called ‘movement exploration’ through which the children learnt how to dress according to their tribes’ customs.

 

Miss Abigail Nyani taught the Pansy class (aged 4 – 5 years) lessons on leisure, counting objects in a set, and creative arts, which included imaginative drawings based on a Ghanaian tale of a man named Kweku Ananse. A short version of the story goes like this:

“Once upon a time, there was a man named Kweku Ananse who lived with his wife Okonory Yaa, and four sons - Ntikuma, Etikelenkele, Nakowhia and Efuduwhewhe. Kweku Ananse was smart, but lazy, and never contributed to farm work. One day, he asked his wife to bury him in their farm when he dies. When she agreed, he faked his own death, and his wife honoured his request by burying him in the farm. This way, Kweku Ananse managed to steal the crops and ate them every night. However, he was finally caught, and all the folks in the whole village shamed him for his actions.”

The moral of this story is – Don’t be lazy, greedy and a cheat. The students drew some wonderful pictures from the story.

 

Red Day Event Highlights

As per our calendar of activities, Red Day was successfully held as planned on February 14, 2019 at PEI.  The programme trained our young ones on loving one another and caring for things in our classrooms as well as the environment. Greetings

As per our scheduled activities, PEI was to go RED on February 14, 2019. By the grace of God, the day arrived at last, and PEI went Red!

The Story

As a morally-inclined institution that seeks to nurture children into responsible citizens of the future, we go beyond imparting academic knowledge to also cultivate good values and morals in our students. And so, we scheduled the PEI Red Day to celebrate love with the world. We designed this programme to help children develop a healthier attitude towards loving one another. As part of the event, we shared stories from the Bible such as the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), and played videos that taught them how to care for the things they love. The children and the school also exchanged gifts to show their ability to share abundance with one another.

We also organised fun activities and games including football, oware, ludo, and ampe. The celebrations were a success and everybody had a wonderful time. We hope to have more of these amazing experiences in the coming months.

GREETINGS

To our Almighty God, we appreciate you for your protection and thank you for the lives of our pupils and taking us through the 5th Week which just ended last Friday, 8th February 2019.

As it has become our routine every week to share our stories with our students, parents, community and international supporters, we are here once again with highlights of what happened during the 5th week and keep you informed of our fearless plans for the future.

SUCCESS STORIES

WEEK 4 RECAP

During the 4th Week, the Morning Glory class, aged 3-4years - Ms. Susana Amoakoah, the class teacher, ensured the class excelled as they continued to write the lower case alphabet from a to u. The students are shining weekly as they continue to learn the numbers 0 – 30. To get the full update about the week 4, plesase click on the link below this report.

WEEK 5 REVIEW (4-8 February 2019)

The Morning Glory class is still improving their writing skills by practicing the lowercase alphabet. We have moved from “u” to “v”. Mathematics skills are improving as the students work on grouping the numbers.

The Carnation class (also known as kindergarten two, aged 5-6 years) persists as the students engage in the following activities: Environmental Science - Seasons and Climate; molding and casting and were as measurement of height. In term of mosaic, the activity was on imaginative drawing;

Our Headmistress, Ms. Joyceline, also has the responsibility of teaching. During Week 5, she narrated a story for the Carnation class. The pupils were asked to do their own imaginative drawing to provide illustrations for the following story:

“Once upon a time, Dede and Aku went to a field to play.   Dede shot a ball so high it hit the sun. The sun was sad and went away. He, Sun, told Mr. Clouds, who got angry, then rain and rain and rain. Dede and Aku couldn’t play again”.

The class was able to create, from their respective imagination, drawings. All shared and the class was great fun.

 

WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHT

First Aid Training

The health of our students is a priority. A workshop for First Aid training and other health education topics was held for the teachers on 7th February 2019. Ms. Armah and Ms. S. Amoakoah took part in the training to ensure we have teachers and staff who are qualified to serve as initial responders in the event there is a health concern.

CALENDAR OF UPCOMING EVENT

Red Day - This event comes on as a full-day program on 14 February 2019 to be held on the school premises. The program is designed to train our young ones on how to care for and love one another. We will also emphasize the importance of sharing one’s abundance with others.
