The power of culture

"I chose art and culture, I wanna create bonds of unity, trust, love; violence only creates hatred and resentment"
Estefanía Serna Ramírez, commune 5, Medellin.

Of course Estefanía is a sweet, creative, intelligent and full of love and hope, his eyes confirmed a charming human being is made of the conviction with which she does, and respect with which she lives.

Estefanía Serna Ramírez is very close to her mother, she has been who has taught her social awareness and has provided "the best anyone can give to a human being: love," she says. She lives with her family in the commune 5 of Medellin, and what makes her happy is to go for a walk with them.

She is studying not one but two careers: law at the University of Medellin and anthropology at the University of Antioquia, you feel the joy with which it forms.

Estefanía believes that there are also other knowledge, appreciates the courage and honesty of people, she says "Everyone has their way of being, and I like that, to be themselves without having to copy anybody, be kind and assets. "

Her family was a direct victim of the conflict, destroyed the house of his paternal grandparents in the town of Cocorná, Antioquia. Were displaced from the El Cocuyo and were forced to move to the urban area. "I do not like negative people. I think change is possible, we live in a country that has long suffered the same war that has mutated, "she dreams of no one being pulled out of their land.

"I like movies, photography, literature, music and church 'empanadas' with blackberry juice". At 19 you think that peace is to live in peace in the community, working together for a better life. The way she brings to peace is trying to love, accompanying, respecting and sharing.

This young builder of peace from our cotidianities proposes that we begin to generate and project the transformation fostering good relations with the other. "Before thinking about things we should strengthen small macro actions".

Estefanía believes that everyone should bring you to peace because things are not built alone, "it is necessary that each brings to the extent that is possible. It is not doing no wrong, it should be good." Passivity in the conflict is something that disagrees and claims that others should not solve everyone's problems but also help among all to find the solution.

She prefers to be seen as a person who is part of a community and is required to contribute from their knowledge, to its development. She is participating in the process of Education for Peace in Mi Sangre, and his new project is the development of audiovisual, for contribute to peace in its neighborhood.

Estefanía, who would like to be an artist, dreams of everyone to live in harmony in their community, that nobody feels superior to another and respect themselves and nature.

Estefanía believes that peace is not a utopia, believes it can become real and eternal, as long as you work towards it "is not easy nor immediate, but one day soon reap the fruits and we see that all what we did was worth the effort. The military means to seek peace are useless, especially at this time, there is no reason to justify the aggression against another person. All the energy wasted in the war should be invested in community building, joining forces for the development of all"
