PASITOS has been providing services to children and young adults with autism in Tijuana for 21 years. Though our campus is closed due to COVID-19, we are required by Mexican law to continue paying the salaries of our teachers, psychologists, and support staff. We have begun offering deeply discounted remote therapy sessions and free remote parental training/support. While closed, our monthly operating costs are approximately $15,000. We have only one more month of operating reserves on hand.
Many of our parents are out of work due to COVID-19 and are struggling to pay for food and housing. Many lack resources to pay for their child's school and therapy sessions. This has resulted in PASITOS receiving almost no income in April and May 2020. Without constant schooling and therapy sessions, many children risk regressing. This project will assure that PASITOS can continue serving their students for the next 5 months while we await the reopening our campus and community.
By having funds to continue operation, PASITOS will be able to carry on providing remote therapy sessions and remote parental training/support. These remote sessions are the key to helping children reinforce already attained skills and abilities while working toward new goals.
By continuing to provide therapy sessions, we are reducing the likelihood that a child's skills and abilities will regress. By assisting with operating costs, you are assuring that PASITOS can continue helping children with autism during and long after the COVID-19 crisis is over.
