The Parent Teacher Home Visit Project

Dear Donor,

                Thanks to your generous contribution we have been very busy training teachers across the United States.  In April 2011, we:

• Trained three different student teacher classes at a neighboring university.
• Kicked off our preschool to kindergarten transitional home visits at 12 schools in Sacramento.
• Trained elementary teachers and staff in Anchorage, Alaska.
• Trained elementary and middle school teachers in Des Moines, Iowa.

The month of May promises to be busy as well.  Here is what we have on the calendar so far:

• In Sacramento we have two trainings scheduled: the first focuses on what home visits look like in middle and high school.  The second focuses on teachers who have actively done home visits. We invite these teachers to this training to discuss the importance of building relationships with the home and how understanding a student’s culture helps to close the achievement gap.
• We again will be doing a little traveling in May: this time we will head to Nevada to train teachers grades K-12 on how to start The Parent Teacher Home Visit Project in their school district. Then we will head to Pittsburg, California to train high school teachers and will then head out to Columbus, Ohio to train elementary and middle school teachers.
