Global Gallery has worked with a network of suppliers in the Fair Trade Federation, most notably World Peaces, whose focus is on artisans and makers who live on the African continent. Through these partnerships, our organizations and those working in them have met a large number of people. Their stories of hardship due to the current pandemic and its related economic impact have touched us deeply. We hope to raise funds during this time to send directly to individuals and families in Africa.
Individuals and families across the African continent are facing extreme hardship due to the current pandemic. While the USA and Europe provide some economic support to individuals facing challenges, countries across Africa do not provide the same socio-economic safety net. These individuals may find themselves without food, living in very cramped conditions with many family members, without access to healthcare, and without the means to get to a center of distribution of basic necessities.
This project will provide direct immediate assistance to individuals and families who request this assistance. While the Fair Trade and marketing networks provide opportunities for people to earn an ongoing income, these times have limited orders and have left the most vulnerable in extreme situations of need. We wish to help cushion the blow of these challenges in the same way through providing direct financial assistance.
Without this support, these individuals and families are in immediate threat of not eating, losing shelter, sickness and death. This is the stark and immediate threat our friends and acquaintances are facing and we wish to help them survive so that we might all work towards a more sustainable future.
