Palestinian hip-hop group D.A.M have written a rap exclusively for Al Manarah, to help our work fostering social awareness on disability issues. The new song, entitled 'Look & See', can really to help spread the message & promote disability rights across the Middle East & beyond. The song has yet to be released, and we need to make a video for it. The video shoot will last for 5 days and will be an invaluable tool to spread the message on disability rights - but we need your help!
Arab persons with disabilities also face systemic marginalization vis-a-vis Israeli society as a whole, and acute discrimination and social exclusion from within the Palestinian society itself. In order to build independent lives, people with disabilities in the Arab community must overcome countless obstacles including prejudice and discrimination, alienation, and often total exclusion from the life of their communities.
Prejudices faced by persons with disabilities are manifest in a lack of personal respect offered to them by the wider community. This is a critical component in the formation of identity, emotional intelligence and inter-personal communication skills. To break patterns of neglect, marginalization and isolation, the project will address the discrimination faced by Arab persons with disabilities in a lively accessible way that can reach out to millions of people in the Arab world and beyond!
There is a huge long-term potential for effects of the project. The video will be available to watch on youtube for many years to come and the message is very clear, calling for respect and understanding. The song for the video has been recorded by D.A.M, who are real rising stars of hip-hop and rap in the Middle East, and are gaining a big following in Europe and North America. Therefore the appeal of the video will carry far beyond the key stakeholders in disability rights in the Middle East.
