The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Malaysia, together with Fugee has established an Education Scholarship Fund for Palestinian refugees and those in the diaspora. The fund will provide sponsorships to Palestinians seeking University degrees but are unable to due to financial constraints. The Palestinian students will get the opportunity to complete higher education and training in Malaysia or Online.
As of 2019, there are over 5.6M Palestinians who have been displaced and forced to seek refuge across the globe. Currently, there are around 1,000 registered Palestinian refugees in Malaysia but there are a few hundred more studying here. These students arrive in Malaysia as a means to progress in their lives but are faced with heavy financial burdens upon arriving. In addition to this, there are a few hundred Palestinian living in neighboring countries with limited educational opportunities.
The Palestinian Embassy and Fugee are committed, where possible, to sponsoring the education of Palestinian youths that display strong academic performance and career outlook. These students will be given all the resources available to secure admission to a University in Malaysia to study for a degree of their choice. They will also receive access to training opportunities to improve their chances of employment.
In the first year of the Scholarship Fund, we hope to sponsor 10 Palestinians that are currently living in Malaysia and are looking to enroll in a University. In subsequent years, we look to sponsor more Palestinian students in the diaspora and those living in neighboring countries. Through their education, students will garner the skills, knowledge, and resilience to access employment opportunities that will lift their families out of poverty and contribute to the economic growth of Palestine.
