As of Nov. 13, there are 61,514 cases of COVID-19 in the West Bank and Gaza with another 12,183 in E. Jerusalem. Families who live hand-to-mouth are unable to leave their homes in hard-hit areas during lockdown. Our partner NGOs ask your help to provide boxes of food and cleaning supplies to the most vulnerable. Medical staff, now in 10-night shifts at our two partner NGO hospitals ask for food, PPE's, & test kits. Their cooperative effort will be vital to recovery of Palestinian communities.
Now, hunger is as serious as the risk of infection. The UN stopped distributing quarterly food rations to families in Gaza when COVID-19 hit neighborhoods on Aug 25. There's no way to buy food because in lockdown, people can't reach a job if they have one and curfews make day labor impossible. U.S. Gov. cutbacks of funding for medical care in Palestine have devastating consequences now and all forms of cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian governments collapsed when annexation was proposed.
Our Palestinian NGO partners ask your help to deliver food and cleaning supplies to highest risk families: those with disabled and elderly family members and female heads of households. They are licensed to travel during lockdown to procure food from local suppliers, assemble parcels, and deliver directly to homes. Hospitals are requesting fresh food delivery for medical staff, plus test kits & PPEs needed to assure safety and allow full operation of the hospitals. Your gift makes this possible.
Other places have overcome such challenges. The Navajo Nation led the US in per capita infections but mobilized, bringing new infections down to only a few a day. Their personal interventions were key - that's what our Palestinian Non-Governmental partners are asking your help to do. With delivery of each food parcel, they will check on the well-being of each family member and work with our NGO hospital partners to find a way to provide additional assistance before it's too late.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
