In 2015, OHS embarked on a project to build an infrastructure to create, collect, preserve, and provide access to digital materials in our vast historic collections. Behind the scenes, these digital files are safeguarded using a series of digital preservation systems we call the OHS Digital Vault. OHS Digital Collections allows online public access to a rich variety of materials from the OHS Research Library, including items from our manuscripts, photography, and oral history collections.
Most people do not have access or the ability to search for and learning about their personal, family, community, state, and government history.
Will provide broad access to our collections for teaching, learning, and research. Our websites, catalog records, finding aids, and digital images enhance scholarship and promote use of both digital and physical objects. A critical component of our mission is to "inspire curiosity about all the people, places, and events that have shaped Oregon," and providing free and open access to our collections is key to executing that mission.
This will give everyone access to Oregon's history. This project will create an enduring future for our past by creating a Digital Vault to increase access to the Oregon Historical Society's collections and ensure that OHS remains the single, indispensable resource for, people who explore, learn, share, and enjoy Oregon and PNW history.
This project has provided additional documentation in a DOCX file (projdoc.docx).
