Working hard and shining brighter!

Students during the 3rd English Festival
Students during the 3rd English Festival

It's mid-October and that means another school year will soon end at Amún Shéa. In fact, the last day of school is set for November 15th—less than a month away! Currently, the school has 87 students enrolled, spanning from Kindergarten to High school. Amún Shéa School remains our core project at Perkin Educational Opportunities Foundation, and we are honored to have your continued support. Subsidizing tuition costs through scholarships helps to keep Amún Shéa's doors open to students all across Morazán.

In the past few months, Amún Shéa students and teachers have been hard at work. Here are some of the highlights:

  • In July, two of Amún Shéa teachers, Ms. Marilyn Ortiz and Ms. Iris Hernández, were awarded the El Mango Dorado (Golden Mango) from ConTextos in recognition of their excellence and commitment to teaching.
  • On August 2nd, Amún Shéa hosted its Third English Festival. All grade levels participated, and it was a sight to be seen (and heard)! All the Disney hits were brought to life on stage as students exhibited their English in progress. Building English language skills remains a priority at the school.
  • On August 26th, high school student Alexander Serrano came in 2nd place in the 15-17-year-old division of the Departmental Virtual Chess Tournament. Talented youth from all across the seven departments (a.k.a. states) of Santa Ana, Chalatenango, Cuscatlán, San Vicente, Cabañas, San Miguel, and Morazán came to compete. Congratulations, Alexander! Chess remains a strong academic tool used at the school for all grade levels.
  • On September 21st, the entire Amún Shéa community participated in a moving celebration of the International Day of Peace. Please visit Amún Shéa’s Facebook page to see the inspiring videos created by the students. Peace teaching remains an important pillar of our learning community.
  • In late September, Amún Shéa students participated as Finalists in the Eureka 2024 Education Fair in Science, Technology, and Innovation. Amún Shéa was the only institution from Morazán to participate this year!

As you can see, Amún Shéa students and teachers have been VERY busy shining their light in Morazán and throughout El Salvador. THANK YOU for making all this possible!

As part of our efforts to enhance the quality of education at Amún Shéa, we are gearing up for our end-of-the-year fundraising campaign to improve the school's infrastructure. GivingTuesday on December 3rd will mark the start of this campaign. We will be sure to share more details in the upcoming weeks.

Please subscribe to our monthly newsletter for all the latest updates about Amún Shéa and quality rural education in El Salvador. (see link below)
