One Picture Saves a Life

With over 75% of pet adoptions starting online, a positive picture of a well groomed animal may be that animal's best chance of finding a forever home. One Picture Saves a Life has teamed up with Seth Casteel of Underwater Dogs fame and Jorge Bendersky from Animal Planet's Groomer Has It to train shelters, rescue groups, and volunteers all over the country to save animals' lives through improved grooming techniques and positive adoption photography.

Eight million dirty, scared, and disoriented pets enter shelters each year - and the photos taken when they arrive are what people see when looking to adopt. Poorly groomed and photographed animals are at a severe disadvantage when often times, the photograph is all potential adopters see online.

One Picture Saves a Life will train hundreds of shelters this year through online videos, webinars, and through a series of 5 tour stops across the country. Jorge Bendersky trains shelters and volunteers how to groom pets so they look and feel their best, and Seth Casteel teaches them how to take a winning adoption picture and market it to adopters online. This program saves lives, drives volunteers into the shelter, and helps socialize dogs and cats in the process.

Long-Term Impact

In 2013, shelters who participated in One Picture Saves a Life reported a positive trend in their adoption numbers and increased volunteer involvement. As we expand the program in 2014 to train thousands of shelter staff and volunteers, we will save more lives through increased adoption, inspire and engage more volunteers to get involved, and change the overall image of rescue and adoption by showing the pets in shelters are wonderful animals, and the shelter experience is a positive one.
