This project will sensitize at least 100 businesses and 300 homes on the effect of plastic litter on our streets and environment. It aims to reduce plastic bottle litter by at least 1,000,000 bottles in 2 months and direct it to the recycling and from there implement a more permanent model. It will train at least 30 less privilege on low cost art forms from plastics.
With the ever growing population of Buea, there is high demand of bottle water and drinks. These plastic containers are disposed of indiscriminately as the bottling companies don't have any management/ recycling strategy for their used bottles. Those not carried by waste management end up in our streets and water ways, and those they succeed to clear off the streets remains in landfills for millions of years. It blocks drains, pollutes rivers, beaches and wreaks havoc on the environment.
This project seeks to create a conscious behavior and change the lifestyle of young Cameroonians and inhabitants of Buea against plastic litter through sensitization. It aims to implement a permanent system of keeping plastic bottles off the streets by diverting the end point of these plastic containers from our waterways and landfills to recycling. It will also train the less privileged in the use of waste plastic bottles for production of art designs and furniture.
The project will keep plastics off the streets and waters, protecting marine lives, preventing hazardous chemicals in our lands and formation of hazardous chemicals. it will improve the livelihoods of the less fortunate with the sale of low cost arts and furniture from plastics.
