Offer tailoring and Embroidery skills to 100 women

By Ignatius Mborihenga | Executive Director

The cycle of poverty; the communities in Yambio County of Western Equatoria State, South Sudan depend heavily on agriculture, yet practicing shifting cultivation using rudimentary tools for subsistent purposes. The source of local income is not diversified, and remember that, the community depends entirely on an insufficient seasonal rainfall and cannot grow crops for most part of the year. Nothing, no innovation has changed this type of setting.

Single mothers suffer the most from the effect of vicious cycle of poverty and if nothing is done to rescue them, their vulnerability will continue to increase, leading into reduced life expectance, compromised living standards and dignity.

Every single mother has her own special story to tell

Community Skills Development majorly supports impoverished women in Western Equatoria State where Yambio is the headquarters of that State. Community Skill Development was established in the year 2008 and since then we have provided some tailoring skills to women groups to help them kick-start business. This time, CSD wants to focus on single mothers who are the most vulnerable groups identified.

This project is behind schedule as the funding is still weak and lagging. The aim of the project is to help 100 single young women to learn tailoring as a way of building their capacities for business. These women once trained will own sewing machines and raise money for their livelihood and that of their families.
