This project targets working with school going children with the aim of building their farming skills and cultivating a positive attitude towards farming which as it is now, lacks. We intend to sensitize the pupils, change their attitudes and impart sound gardening skills. Establish an organic garden in each school which will provide hands on experience, yield and aid to the neediest of the pupils. We anticipate reaching 100 gardening trained pupils who can freely help their parents at home
Agriculture has long been set aside in our schools curriculum. This has not worked well in encouraging pupils to take up agriculture as a subject in schools hence most of them have a very low opinion of it. Our proposed project recognizes agriculture as the backbone of our country's economy and hence the need to impart agricultural skills to the pupils while they are still young and in school in realization that the future of farming is in the hands of the young, innovative and energetic.
The project intends to impart farming skills to school pupils and cultivate a positive attitude towards farming which as it is now, lacks. We will train the pupils on sound gardening techniques and establish a demonstration garden in each school where all the techniques we stand for will be displayed.
This will encourage all the pupils involved to take a keen interest in agriculture even as a livelihood career that they can take up in the future.
This project in the longer term will be used to provide food-at least one meal to the needy and will be replicated to other schools and areas based on the success and learning there from. We also anticipate having a garden in each school by the end of the project period with 100 gardening trained pupils who can freely help their parents at home.
Once sold the proceeds from the project will be used to keep the needy in school as well as catering for any other of their needs.
