The project Nutrition Champions works on essential nutrition actions to end malnutrition in urban slums of India because malnutrition is a major contributor of mortality and morbidity among young children. In 2016-17, Matri Sudha created 11 Nutrition Champions and aims to create 50 Nutrition Champions in 2018 from among women, men, health and nutrition workers who champions the cause of malnutrition free community. Matri Sudha aims to create 10000 Nutrition Champions by 2030.
The Sout Delhi carries a total population of 2700000 with concentration of number of slums. The district has 28.7 percent underweight children; 31 percent stunted children; 21.2 percent wasted children and 68 percent children who were anemic. Only 69 percent women received complete ante-natal care and 29 percent women initiated early breastfeeding which is at all not encouraging. The project will improve the nutritional status of children by reaching to a total population of 50000.

Improved maternal and child health care services in terms of ante-natal and post-natal care by 30 percent; Improved Birth Weight by 50 percent; Cent Percent severely malnourished children received referral service as well as home based care; 50000 people would be reached on home based care to prevent malnutrition; 50 ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers would be trained and facilitated; 12 Poshan Sabhas to cover more than 350 women; 50 individuals will be felicitated and trained nutrition champions
