Abraham's Oasis is the only agency caring for abandoned babies in North-western Ethiopia. Abandoned babies are usually hospitalized prior to coming to us. The hospital is not able to meet the essential supply requirements for these babies. We seek funds to strengthen the hospital with basic supplies (such as baby milk formula) so that the care for these babies starts from the moment they enter the hospital for the best possible outcome.
There were eight new-born babies in the last 12 months who came to Abraham's Oasis. The hospital doesn't have budget to provide for these babies and they struggle to meet their needs, they collect money from staff members to buy baby milk an d bottles. Delay in appropriate care at the time of admission will jeopardize the development later on. This service provision for the abandoned babies prior to their arrival in our care will be beneficial to both the baby and the hospital.
Abraham's Oasis will buy new-born baby supplies and have these in readiness for when we hear that there is an abandoned baby admitted to the health facility. The short term outcome is well cared for abandoned babies by primary caregivers in the health facilities right from the point of admission. The long term outcome is will be the best possible mental and physical development for better life for these highly vulnerable babies.
We will meet the need of fifteen new-born abandoned babies to ensure that these required supplies are in readiness to provide supplementary support for the caregivers in health facilities. We are working on prevention through our tracing and re-unification activities
