Design by LCG Pence
As stated in our last project report, LCG Pence delivered a price list and design to the City of Newberg. This design and price was discussed with Newberg Animal Shelter Friends (NASF) and the Newberg City Council. Because the cost delivered from LCG Pence was higher than expected, Pence suggested some value engineering changes to the design to reduce the cost. However, these changes came with a price tag. On February 7th, the Newberg City Council approved the spending of up-to $8k, as requested by Pence, for their redesign of several shelter elements. This spending was endorsed by NASF at the city council meeting because we need to press forward and get a finished and workable design. Our donors want to see construction begin!
NASF and the City of Newberg will be meeting the week of March 7th to discuss the value engineering suggestions and come to compromises to the original design that will not compromise the overall aspects of the shelter that are important and required for a good working animal shelter. We may delay some of the features until a later date.
NASF and the City of Newberg have met with the County Animal Control and have some good ideas on how to partner and share some of the on-going expenses of maintaining and operating the new shelter. This is a great way to begin a long lasting working relationship between community volunteers and support city and county needs as well.
Stay tuned for future developments and a confirmation on the building design. Attached is the original building design sketch. We may be compromising on some of the features shown in this picture (i.e. storefront windows and entry overhang, etc) in order to reduce the overall cost.
Thank you for your generous donations!
