NGO "PHOENIX" plans to change the windows and furniture in the Ward of Respiratory Diseases of the Mother and Child Institute, a national hospital where the most complicated cases from all Moldova are treated. The bad condition of the existing windows does not allow a proper ventilation of the spaces, neither to reduce heat loss in winter. Furniture is too old and may not be restored. Under these circumstances, this infringes upon sanitation rules to be observed in the hospital.
In the Ward for Respiratory Diseases are treated about 1400 children per year. The majority of these children are from the rural area where they do not have access to proper care for their diseases. Inappropriate living conditions (enormous, old, broken windows that do not allow the access of the fresh air, because it is dangerous to open them, neither to save heating) make the treatment less efficient and extend the stay of the children in the hospital.
The new and easy to handle windows will allow saving heat and to ventilate the rooms when necessary. This is particularly important for children with complicated respiratory diseases treated in this ward. The living conditions in the ward are not less important than the medication. Improving these conditions will contribute to a better cure of the disease and will shorten the stay of the children in the hospital.
New and quality windows will reduce heat loss in winter, the hospital administration will spend less money for heat consumption and will seek to mobilize resources to contribute to the renovation works in the ward (patients' rooms, bathrooms, rooms for therapy). It will contribute to the improvement of local capacities and responsibilization of the administration.
