Summary

In 2000 Surmang Foundation built a mocern clinic at the heart of remote, ancient Surmang Dutsi Til monastery. It was home of the renouwn lama, the 11th Chogyam Trungpa. 5 hours west of Yushu Town, it was the only private clinic built with the cooperation of the government. It was financed completely through the efforts of Surmang Foundation. Since then over 150 visiting doctors volunteered to end maternal and infant mortality/morbidity. That effort continues to the present day.

Challenge

The Clinic depends on having access to reliable trabsportation.

Solution

Patients need to be driven to large hosspital services for emergency treatment. This is a much bigger problem than it seems, since the roads are very remote.

Long-Term Impact

The Surmang Cliniic should give emergeny services when needed to remote patients.
