We provide quality Montessori early childhood development to 34 young, rural Xhosa children in a safe and stimulating learning environment. They receive 2 nutritious meals per day and regular health checks. We provide an After school enrichment program for 50 Xhosa children in grades 1 - 3, where they develop their isiXhosa, English and Maths. The children in our area need to become literate. Reading is the fundamental skill upon which all other skills depend!
84% of Grade 4 children in the Eastern Cape, South Africa cannot read to understand - PIRLS 2016. Sadly, only 32% of children in our area finish high school! Children need to build solid literacy and numeracy skills, while they are still in their foundation years, as these skills are essential for any further learning to take place. Children need to become literate in their mother tongue! Reading ultimately leads to having a more dignified, empowered and independent life. A right for all!
Ncinci One's Montessori provides an environment in which the young, rural children are able to build solid educational foundations in all learning areas. These foundations and skills assist them with all later learning. The Siyafunda After school program promotes the development of a solid literacy and numeracy foundation, which will support all further learning and promote educational success. Both these projects were started because the local community requested educational assistance.
The children attending the programs will build educational foundations that are necessary for all further learning. They will become fully literate in their mother tongue and reading for pleasure will be introduced to them - this is a gift for life! The program will strengthen these children's literacy and numeracy skills, giving them the necessary foundation and confidence for future educational success. The children also take home the skills they learn and share them with other family members.
