Created by Girl Scouts Heart of the South, the National Stand Beside Her Movement is a call to action initiative to mentor, support and develop women and girls; to end comparison and competition and create more collaboration and support for one another. The Stand Beside Her Movement culminates each year with National Side Beside Her Week, October 30 - November 5, 2016 to encourage people to commit to supporting girls and women in their lives, their home, their office and in their community.
NSBH was formed from the thought, "What if, instead of interacting with each other through competition and comparison, women collaborated and supported one another?" Starting in childhood girls are inundated with negative messages and behaviors that prevent them from building healthy relationships and ideas about their potential. Girls harbor these ideas and relationships as they mature into women. The competition and comparison formed on the playground and carries over to the boardroom.
NSBH will provide girls and women with abundant opportunities to build courage, gain personal and professional confidence and enhance their character. By helping women and girls understand the need to end comparison and competition between females in every aspect of their lives, they are truly making the world a better place. This movement will fundamentally change the culture of thinking of girls on the playground and in the classroom as well as women in the workforce and in the board room.
This is an initiative that will continue until every woman in this country feels supported. The criteria for success is simple - no more comparison, no more competition, no more backstabbing, no more whispering behind backs and only a world where all women stand beside each other, honoring each other and supporting each other in every way.
