As the only youth LGBTQ group on the North Shore of Massachusetts, nAGLY is committed to bringing our services to as many youth as possible. Unfortunately, many youth don't have the means to attend our meetings, or the trainings and conventions we offer to them. A van would serve two purposes: 1) allow us to pick up youth in underserved and economically-challenged towns in our vicinity, and 2) allow us to provide transportation to regional leadership conferences and trainings.
Many youth who live in economically-challenged areas are unable to take advantage of nAGLY's services. Sometimes the reason is cost, other times the youth feel unable to request a ride from family members. Thus they remain isolated from the services which could help.
Having our own van would allow us to dedicate a route and a time when we could pick up youth to attend our meetings, drop-in times, events, and trainings.
The more youth we can reach, the more we can ensure every youth has support, love, acceptance, and the opportunities to grow into healthy, vibrant members of the community. From an individual standpoint, the benefits are self-evident: healthy, confident adults who develop healthy relationships and habits. From a societal standpoint, fewer youth need treatment, fewer suicides, more productive communities.
