Project #3831

Help AIDS orphans go to school in Kenya

by Mzesa Day Care Center

It was a term which started in a very hard situation. Nairobi was very dry during the months of November, December, January , February up to 21st March when we received very heavy and destructive rain. The rain destructed most of our iron-sheet classes, flooded the play ground and we were forced to close the school and stay away.

But we thank the community which came together and re-constructed the iron-sheet classes again. We also thank God for all those who are helping this Centre through Globalgiving by donating because through them, we have built a Library for the School/Centre, otherwise all books and other learning materials would have been destroyed. We also thank our Area Chief of Administration who mobilized the community to come over and re-construct the iron-sheet classes.

When we resumed classes recently on 28th April 2015, we have received many other kids that we do not know where some will sit as they learn because the benches and desks are few. But we thank God because of you as our donors and well-wishers because you are our helpers.. This situation is hard to handle, but we do it by the grace of God.

Any suggestion from you as our donors and friends on how best to improve is welcome.   We are doing the best and the community is really helping. Again, we thank all of you for your wonderful support and we pray that one day we shall the support of constructing durable bricked classes and come out of this mess.

God bless you and bless the work of your hands,

We thank God for this year! As his plans are not our plans, when we started this term, we did not know that we could come to the end of this term successfully, but we thank God that we have done it wonderfully. We struggled with our Std 8 and we are happy that they sat for their Kenya Primary Education Examination; and we know that they are going to pass. One student, Sheldon Musoga” promised us that he will obtain over 400 marks and that he and others will join Form One (1) next year.

We have refurbished one of our old Library and have received more books from well-wishers. We received more 7 pupils this term (September-December) and 5 babies were admitted to the Baby Care Unit.

We sincerely thank our well-wishers and donors for their contribution towards this project as it makes big impact to the surrounding community at large. Though we have challenges, like  feeding  the babies, school uniforms for the coming year 2015, warm clothes and dypers for the small ones, powder milk, beans and maize for the big ones, rice, cooking oil firewood and payment of the support staff, we have tried ourselves to manage. BUT THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!  As our Shalton "our class 8 pupil said (quote surely I do not know where I would be or even what I could have done without Mzesa Day Care Centre, but I know God will see me through all these unquote).

Since the Centre has increased the intake, we have a serious shortage of water tanks but we believe, with the your help in 2015  and that of the community Chief, we shall manage to add more.

We take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you who have supported us throughout this year and we hope and pray that you will continue supporting this noble project to improve these less fortunate children and realize their importance of their lives.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Our local Area Chief visited us Mzesa Day Care Centre on 21st February 2013 and informed us that our Area Member of Parliament will come to our Centre on Saturday 30th February 2013 at 12 noon; to see the children who were new at the Centre. As a Centre we went round to our neighbors’ house to house informing them about the visit of our Member of Parliament, knowing that they will come and contribute clothes and shoes to these kids. We as Mzesa Community, we contributed some cash and make a Cake, made Ugali and meat, we bought chicken and rice, we bought some juices for the entire school, (instead of Sodas as sodas are expensive).

When it came to this day, 30th February 2013, the community around came over with some gifts for these kids, we were entertained by the older children with songs and dances, they had food (which was special for that particular day); all our teachers were also excited that at least the Area Member of Parliament will come over and know them, so they put on very smart. Our Area Chief went out of his way and brought with him 2 sacks of maize and wanted to donate these in the presence of our Area Member of Parliament. So everyone was excited.   We waited and waited from 12noon to almost 6.00 pm without our Member of Parliament coming. Our Area Chief eventually gave us the maize, and gifts were given to the children by the community members without their Member of Parliament . It was a very enjoyable day, but ended up with disappointment to the children, teachers, chief and everyone who came over. Though he called the following day to apologize…….. we were all upset, including the Chief.

So we failed, because we should have made sure that our Area Member of Parliament has time for us, we should have gone to his office a day earlier to confirm that for sure he was coming before spending whatever little we had to buy what was not necessary for that day. This made us go out of our budget.

This has given us a lesson; that we should not take things for granted. We have to reconfirm on issues and events before we engage ourselves. Our community members also have learnt a lesson too that when they spread a word around for the community gathering, they should be sure of it.

We thank God for this term which has been very difficult and he has seen us through. We have had many children who have been brought to this Centre by the Area Chief; who collects them from various places, but we that God because we have been able to feed and give them uniforms. We have also managed to assess them academically and have put them in fir suitable grades.

Through your assistances, we have managed to buy an extra Water Tank, bought mattress for the vry young ones; and we are appealing for assistance to buy other 2 Water Tanks to sustain the situation. We are also appealing for more volunteer   teachers as the ones we have are few and payment kof their stipends is now a big burden. But above all, we thank our donors, our friends and the community who are so faithful and who believe in what we do to this community. We pray to God to bless them so that in turn be a blessing to this Centre’

Thank you and God bless you,

We have had critical times at the Centre this term, but we thank God that we have seen ourselves through. When we opened for the Second Term, we have taken 10 children (girls ranging from 6 to 12 years) who have been sexually assaulted by their relatives from various household and put them at a Central home where we are monitoring them. We have then registered them at this Centre and provided them with uniforms, shoes, activity kits and food. We have taken them to various hospitals for various examinations and we are happy that the hospitals have agreed to wave off the bills.

We have had two ladies (friends of Mzesa Centre) who have come out to help them with sanitary and promised to do so throughout their education.

We take this opportunity to thank all of you who are donating to this Centre as we have managed to buy 8,000 litre Tank for clean water and now our children are happy and proud because the will not go around looking for water.

Thank you and may Our Almighty God bless all of you.
