Challenge

400 students and their families directly benefit from our program. The program assists children in the HIV/AIDS ravaged slums of Soweto, located in Nairobi, Kenya. The project needs trained doctors, nurses and social workers and a feeding program. The impact of HIV/AIDS is so large and it affects the entire community, whereas, AIDS orphans are discriminated against and often end up on the streets. Girls bear the brunt of the HIV problem as they are sent out to beg for food and are often raped.

Solution

Counseling for AIDS orphans Feeding program to keep children off the streets Capacity building to teach children proper hygiene HIV/AIDS monitoring in conjunction with local clinic Skills training to prepare students for the workplace

Long-Term Impact

Our program will allow AIDS orphans and other disadvantaged children in the slums to get quality healthcare and a proper education. The program will save the lives of hundreds of students and create income generating opportunities for the poor.
