My Yoga Journey of Self Discovery

by Beit Ashams for Self Development
My Yoga Journey of Self Discovery

It turned out a never ending journey before I even realized it!

That’s how my life took a different turn as I pursued my first Yoga Teacher Training certification in 2013! It was right after a suggestion my chairopractor gave for me to start practicing Yoga for my neck to heal.

And that’s how it all happened! I got hooked to a practice that I enjoyed much that was also a needed time for me to dig deeper within myself…

This feeling I wanted to share with as many people as possible in my community, and decided to become a yoga teacher only after one year of practicing...

My community suffers a continuous trauma due to the ongoing political situation, beside all other stressful and challenging situations that anyone in the world lives, such as financial and social.

And because we are not just the physical body, we are also a mix of emotions, and of thoughts, that contribute directly to our physical wellbeing. Once these thoughts and emotions are stored in our bodies, and don’t have anywhere to be released, we start seeing different diseases manifesting in our bodies.

And because I felt the difference after Yoga became a part of my life, I wanted to become a teacher and help others feel the way I felt, and so I co-founded the first specialized Yoga Studio in Palestine, to plant the value of self care and wellbeing among my community members especially women.

And since the number of Yoga teachers in Bethlehem, where I live, is very small, this adds a lot of pressure on us as teachers to meet the needs of our community and respond to requests to lead classes and retreats. And as I teach women, men and youngsters of all backgrounds to care for themselves, I also need to lead by example, and to walk the walk.

Attending new Yoga trainings help me on a personal level maintain my own practice and grow deeper in it, and also helps take care of more people whom I teach.

I am inspired by the Baptiste methodology and sequence, which i teach in my classes, and share with others. This inspiration made me attend Level 1 Baptiste in 2016, and then to continue my journey by attending Level 2 Baptiste Training in summer 2018.

Baptiste Yoga is an amazingly powerful school of Yoga that I love and practice with. Baptiste Yoga and its methodology are designed to bring a new insight to achieve consistent profound results in the most important areas of each ones' life; it includes physical yoga practice, meditation practice and active self-inquiry as tools of transformation and possibility. It raises vitality and physical power, improving the quality of life, which is something we all need at this time.

I am always in gratitude for all your support and looking forwards to more support so i can do Level 3 soon!

Deep gratitude for your trust!

When i decided to do my first certification in Yoga and become a Yoga teacher, i didn't really realize where would this amazing journey of Self Discovery take me!

I started practicing Yoga after a harsh pain in my neck when my chiropractor suggested that i start doing Yoga. Feeling much better, made me want to become a Yoga teacher myself to be able to share this amazing gift with others in my community where i can be of help to them get through physical pain, but also emotional and stressful pains though which my community suffers trauma and stress on daily basis due to social and financial challenges but also because of the political situation.

When we are under physical, emotional, or mental stress, we tend to store all this stress in our bodies, without knowing how to release it. And Yoga is such an effective way to channel all these stresses outside of the body. Through Yoga we reconnect to our true self, to the values that we are born with, values of bliss, of love and freedom.

And so i Co-Founded the first specialized Yoga studio in Palestine, where people come from many Palestinian cities, and drive long distances through checkpoints, walls, and different kinds of challenges to come and enjoy Yoga.

The community of  Yoga teachers in Bethlehem is really small, while many people are becoming more aware about Yoga, and the need is increasing. We receive many calls to lead Yoga sessions in different places in Palestine, which requires me as a Yoga teacher to always take good care of myself so I can take care of others. And so i had been teaching young girls in villages, women and kids in refugee camps, young girls in the juvenile home, activists, human rights defenders, runners, and elder people.

And this is why i am still following my passion by not only teaching, but also enjoy being a student when i do more Yoga trainings since this journey of Self Discovery never ends!

I am inspired by the Baptiste methodology and sequence, which i teach in my classes, and share with others. This inspiration made me attend Level 1 Baptiste in 2016, and then to continue my journey by attending Level 2 Baptiste Training in summer 2018.

And since this journey never ends, i still wish to pursue my dream and attend Level 3 in 2019.

I am grateful for your support and looking forwards to more support so i can do Level 3 end of this year!

Deep gratitude for your trust!

In 2013, i was certified as a Yoga teacher, a journey i took to help myself physically deal with chronic pain, which then led me to use it as a tool to help members of my community through the trauma, stress and emotions they are experiencing, as a community living under occupation. We live in a time and place where it is easy to lose hope, trust, we experience stress and trauma daily, leading to emotional, physical and mental suffering because of the current situation. Losing hope in the situation, means losing hope in the self, not being able to share the gifts we all have, and disconnecting us from our inner strength.

I started my journey with a vision to use Yoga as a tool to bring hope in this hopeless situation, where people connect to their true beings, to the value that we are born with, values of bliss, of love and freedom. This vision came to life when i co-founded the first specialized Yoga studio in Palestine.

I am one of 4 yoga teachers in Bethlehem, where i live. The community of Yoga teachers is small, and the vision is big. I lead yoga classes for young girls in villages, women and kids in refugee camps, young girls in the juvenile home, activists, human rights defenders, runners, and elder people.

Being a Yoga teacher, requires being also a student. In this joureny there is no end to learning, and growing... as we never stop learning about ourselves, because Yoga is a journey of the self, to the self through the self.

And since i teach in many places, and care for many people, i also need to care for myself and grow deeper into my practice. I did this by attending my Level 2 Baptiste training in July 2018 with a 100 other people, the training was led by Paige Elenson, the founder of the Africa Yoga project, who is a leading teacher in the Baptiste community.

Baptiste Yoga is an amazingly powerful school of Yoga that I love and practice with. Baptiste Yoga and its methodolgy are desgined to bring a new  insight to achieve consistent profound results in the most important areas of each ones' life; it includes physical yoga practice, meditation practice and active self inquiry as tools of transformation and possibility. It raises vitality and physical power, improving the quality of life, which is something we all need at this time. I had the honor of learing directly from Baron Baptiste in Level 1.

My journey will never stop here, i am dreaming of doing my Level 3, next year, which i would also seek your support again!

Deep gratitude for your trust!
