ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACHEIVEMENTS
A regional coordinator for the My Island – My Community project who is based in St. Lucia has been hired.
St. Lucia’s community outreach program has started with the selection of the white breasted thrasher and the coral reef as national program mascots and the establishment of plans for local theater productions at the Our Planet Center stage, a permanent interactive display in Castries.
Antigua and Barbuda’s community outreach program includes a youth strategy and a focus on forest fires, solid waste management and watershed issues that build on current initiatives.
Pilot episodes of Callaloo, the climate change theme radio drama developed for the region, have been produced and will soon be market tested. Character actors have been selected and production has started for Callaloo. Radio stations are on board as part of national coalitions to broadcast Callaloo.
In Bacolet, Tobago, PCI-Media Impact is facilitating a 2 day workshop on October 6 and 7 to coordinate and formalize the Tobago My Community Campaign. Media-Impact is partnering with the Speyside Eco-Marine Park Rangers (SEMPR), the Buccoo Reef Trust, the Tobago House of Assembly and other key agencies in Tobago.
NEXT STEPS FOR SUCCESS
Production and broadcast of first 208 episodes of Callaloo over a two year period.
Establish radio magazine shows to compliment the broadcast of Callaloo and provide for discussion of key topics and issues with the audience.
Plan and implement My Community Action Campaigns in each of the 12 countries. These campaigns will deepen local engagement in the program.
Implement monitoring and evaluation strategies that track the development of the enabling conditions and focus on specific target outcomes regarding desired behavior changes in coordination with each national coalition.
