It has been an exciting and busy time for us at Tipitina's Foundation. We are well into 2012 Instruments A Comin' (IAC) project on Global Giving and we are less than $500 away from meeting our goal! Thank you so much for your continued support and commitment to provide musical instruments and music education to area schools. These contributions have allowed us to expand and grow several programs in the last few months.
Last year we began supporting Pierre A. Capdau Charter School in New Orleans by donating instruments to their music program. This summer we continued supporting their music program by donating additional instruments and method books. Through these donations their music program has grown exponentially, with now almost half of the school's students participating. It has been amazing to witness the transformation of these children and it is hard not to get wrapped up in their enthusiasm and pride for themselves, their school, and their band. Through Global Giving funding, we have given more children instruments and have given this school a strong solid foundation to further build their wonderful music program.
Instruments A Comin'(IAC) Shreveport is another expansion project that Tipitina's Foundation has been tirelessly working to achieve. Huntington High School's award-winning Raiders Marching Band was a recipient of a musical instrument grant from the Foundation this year. Due to the popularity of the marching band, the school is now home to a concert band and a jazz band! The rapid growth of this program and the appreciation and dedication of Huntington's teachers, students, parents and the community at large have made us realize the tremendous impact we are having on this underserved community. Through our efforts we hope to further support Huntington's model music program and other schools in the Shreveport area.
Through funding from Global Giving, and donations from around the world, Tipitina's Foundation has been able to dedicate and renovate a space for our much needed Instrument Repair Program. Creating a repair program was a paramount goal for our Foundation and an important component of our core mission. We are excited to see it fully realized. In addition to renovating the space, this funding will also assist us in hiring an Instrument Repair Specialist. Now that the renovation is complete, Tipitina's Foundation will be able to refurbish and repair donated instruments "in house," which will allow us to more efficiently place instruments in the hands of children throughout our city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
It is inspiring to see how children's involvement in music boosts self-esteem and teaches teamwork. Skills learned from playing music are fundamental in providing self confidence, teaching organizational tools, and building personal pride. At no time in our nation's history are these traits more important for our youth than they are today. Tipitina's Foundation believes that our greatest resource is our children and we want to continue to be an integral part in the restoration of a better education for this community's children. The continuous support of Global Giving has been essential to preserving the musical culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. We thank you for being our partner and helping us with our historic and unprecedented relief and rebuilding efforts. Your continued support aids us in furthering our goal of allowing the power of music to touch hearts and change lives.
