Children may experience cyberbullying, grooming, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or even emotional abuse online. The worse thing is that the abuse in such cases can come into safe spaces as their bedrooms. Images, videos, chats are stored and the abusers mainly tend to threaten children by sharing them with their close family members or friends. The mobile application will allow children to report abuse enabling both police and himaya to respond faster and better to the reported cases.
In 2008, a study conducted by KAFA,Save the Children & the Ministry of Social Affairs, showed that 1 of 6 children in Lebanon are victims of sexual abuse. This refers only to 1 out of 4 types of abuse a child can be exposed to: physical, psychological, sexual abuse and neglect. Statistics show that 75.9 % of the country's population are internet users (IWS Statistics). Hence, this application will sensitize children on online child sexual abuse and provide them with a platform to report it.
The short term result will be creating a child friendly application enabling people to report abuse online. Mid-term results: -Children will be sensitized on online child sexual abuse -Children will have a new accessible platform to report abuse -More cases of abuse will be reported and provided with the necessary services
Long term results: Creating a coordination mechanism with the cyber-crime unit within the internal security forces (ISF) enabling both ISF and himaya to respond faster and better to the reported cases of online abuse on vulnerable children. All the children of Lebanon will have the chance to report any form of abuse, especially sexual abuse that they may know of.
