Alliance for Women Advancement plans to help women utilize the revolving Savings and Loan Associations (SLA) to provide long-term solutions for women who are mostly single parents & survivors of gender based violence in eight rural communities access to savings, insurance and credit facilities. Women will be trained and supported to form eight groups of 25. Members will have a safe and secure facility for loan to engage in business which will help them pay for food, healthcare, and school fees
Rural women living in concession areas in Margibi &Grand Bassa Counties are among the most marginalized groups in Liberia. They are not only excluded from employment opportunities but also lack access to land for livelihood & income generation. The tension associated with concession agreements and the increased earning potential for men increase women's vulnerability to myriad of abuses. We empower these women to improve economic and social status through SLA formation, training & support
The SLA will provide the opportunity for women to learn business & life skills, collectively save and benefit from easy access to loan with minimum interest and longer payment plan without the need for collateral or guarantee by community leaders. Their income generation activities will enable them solve their own problems, increase their self-confidence and give them voices & greater bargaining powers at home and at community levels. Meetings will be used to educate women on their rights
Through the SLA, women will experience increased financial security through their ability to profitably manage their business, access additional capital through loan and receive advises & support from other members. In the long term, women will have the ability to meet the basic needs (food & healthcare, school fees) for they and their households. The weekly meetings and discussions on family planning, GBV, rights & participation will increase their capacity to demand for their rights.
