This project will provide practical entrepreneurship skills for poor and disadvantaged girls and provide them with small capital in order to jump-start their micro-enterprise initiatives. Most of them no longer go to school and in this condition they are very vulnerable to be sex-trafficked or to marry early thereby lessening their chances of improving themselves. Doing small-scale enterprises will tremendously improve their social and economic status.
Many poor girls living in rural areas drop-off from school early and when this happens they either marry early or become single mothers or they are enticed to seek greener pastures in big cities like Manila. When they go to big cities they often fell prey to traffickers and syndicates and the spiral of violence and poverty happen. There is an urgent need to provide them with entrepreneurial opportunities in order for them to stay in their homes and improve themselves economically.
Providing girls with entrepreneurial skills, then providing them small capital and hand-holding in order for their business to grow is one key success factor to improve their lives while staying in their communities. The repayments of the seed capital will be used in increasing their ventures as well as in adding beneficiaries of the program. In this way the problem of stagnation of the rural areas is attended to.
Improving the economic situation of poor girls by a combination of training and provision of starter capital with the aim of using repayments to increase their businesses is one way of developing the community and preventing the girls from a spiral of poverty and powerlessness.
