Hello! Thus far, we have raised $185 through GlobalGiving towards our goal of $4,000 to assist with in-country transportation and really need your help. Mfangano Island has roughly 18,000 residents, depending on the time of year and is separated by a giant mountain in the middle. On the half of the island where our bike shop is located, there are 200 motorbikes and 1 car. The team at the shop has sold through 700 bikes we have sent. Can you image how life has changed? Bikes are everywhere! From the bike shop..."I can’t forget to mention the rate at which the rides have increased in the island as now every man and women can ride the bikes including 3 years old kids. This is a big impact to this remote island in terms of transport is concerned. " I'll be traveling to the shop on January 16th and look forward to sharing photos in our next report. We are going to make an attempt to ride around the entire island (over 50k) to see what we can learn about the impact bikes are having.
Bicycles for Humanity Colorado puts 100% of the funds we raise back into the cause. We have no overhead from paid staff as we all volunteer our time.
Best, Mike Lover
