SOWI Mentoring Clubs (SMC) saves lives that would otherwise be lost to unsafe fertility practices. We impact the tools and assistance that enable the young girl to be sexually informed. This prevents untimely pregnancies and allows victims to make safe choices in a friendly environment. We advocate for her right to information, education and healthcare in a friendly environment and engage her in activities that empowers her as a woman. We have engaged and impacted over 6000 girls in Ghana
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Teenage pregnancy is rampant in Africa due to a lack of information and education. In an unfriendly environment, victims often resort to unsafe practices in an effort to remedy the situation that may lead to her untimely death or permanent damage to her sexual and overall health. Our timely intervention protects girls mainly between the ages of 15 - 21 who are mostly still in school
How will this project solve this problem?
By giving the young lady the tools to make wise and safe choices, we go to the root of the problem to prevent an unwanted pregnancy that may lead to an unfortunate death. The platform gives timely information and access to health care and further facilitates her with tools to help her focus on her goals. As continuum of our impact, we advocate for her right to make safe choices in a friendly environment.
Potential Long Term Impact
SMCs saves the lives of young girls who are vulnerable to teenage pregnancy and are likely to engage in unsafe practices in an effort to find a remedy. The project targets the schools directly and engages in direct interactions. Untimely deaths by any measure is unfortunate, however, the unchecked deaths of young girls in a society is lethal to its health as a nation. SMCs ensure that the young woman we reach focuses on her education and goal.
