Individuals with mental health issues suffer from structural violations in mental health centres (MHC) through inadequate, degrading and harmful care. 60% of them do not provide services for children. While anxiety and depressive disorders are most common for adults, children suffer from adjustment problems, externalizing disorders and peer violence. The lack of quality rehabilitation, counseling and therapeutic services for child is one of the biggest weaknesses of this system.
In order to compensate for the lack of sufficient support by the health sector the Foundation provides counselling, psychotherapy, psychological and psycho-social support free of charge for children. Our multi-systematic approach includes working with children and their parents to enable them to deal positively with challenges, social skills which target deficits in assertiveness and conflict resolution skills. Children are individually counseled and parents act as co-therapists in the process.
To offer as much help as possible this project will provide 1 month of counselling, psychotherapy or psychological and psycho-social support to 42 marginalized children and their parents who are suffering from various mental health issues, problems and disorders. The biggest aims of this process is the personal empowerment by accomplishing individual goals which are set at the beginning of the therapy, combined with behavioral changes, improved learning abilities and personal connections.
