We plan to introduce Martus - a technology tool to assist grassroots human rights workers worldwide to collect, safeguard and disseminate information on human rights abuses - to NGOs in Bangladesh.
Grassroots social justice activists collect massive amounts of information on rights violations, but a large part of this information is lost due to confiscation, destruction, neglect or lack of resources. Since these testimonies and other data are used to draw attention to the plight of victims and bring justice to perpetrators, their loss often has tragic consequences. This has too often been the case in countries like India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
We will provide local groups with the Martus software and related documentation in their language. We will also meet with these group to conduct hands-on training sessions that will help ensure the effective implementation and use of Martus.
In the short term, we will help several NGOs in Bangladesh organize and protect their most valuable resource: information. In the long term, our help in protecting that information will facilitate the reconciliation and justice sought by the NGOs.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
