The project is geared to address environmental degradation through planting of grass seed, construction of a pan dam and introduction of improved stock. The project targets farmers in the rural set ups. It is expected that with a conserved environment, there will be improved livelihoods.
The area is an arid area that experiences very minimal rainfall. Due to these factors, there is environmental degradation and lack of water for livestock use. Mostly women and children (school-going) are most mostly affected as they are the ones who undertake fetching of water. Livestock are also affected. Through communal digging of local pan water collection dams, water will be available both for domestic and livestock use. A tree nursery will be established for the community to plant trees.
Collected water will be conserved and used both for domestic and livestock use. Trees planted will conserve the environment, mitigate climate change effects and children and mothers will have time to do other domestic chores. Less livestock deaths will be realized.
In the long run, the project will mitigate climate change effects, the environment will be conserved. Kitchen gardens will also be established and nutrition at the household level will be improved.
