During the fall, Machik funded four key projects on the ground that are helping Tibetan communities in and around Jyekundo (Yushu) begin to recover from the devastating earthquake. These include:
1. Health Outreach Services in Nomadic and Rural Areas
Machik provided funding to support health outreach services for earthquake survivors in remote nomadic areas.
Tibetans in remote nomadic areas are in urgent need of post-hospitalization health care services. Our partner on the ground has identified at least 200 patients who have been left with no health care following their release from hospitals for earthquake-related injuries and health conditions.
To respond to this urgent need, a Health Outreach service will include the following initiatives:
2. Surgery for Earthquake Survivors
Machik provided funding for 49 earthquake survivors to receive follow-up surgical procedures. These earthquake survivors required secondary surgeries for recovery.
3. Support for Vocational Training School
Machik provided funding for key basic needs for a vocational training school which serves 1,400 students, as follows:
4. Support for Clinic to Serve Villagers
Machik provided support for a new rural health clinic that will serve 1,700 villagers.
