Dear Friends
I'm pleased to announce that the construction work of Operation theatre at our Akora Khattak hospital has commenced. We are hopeful that with, your generosity and support, we will soon be able to complete the project.
Here I would like to tell the story of three disabled sisters who were brought to our hospital by their parents where our doctors brought some relief to their troubled life:
This is a heart wrenching story of Ataullah who is a laborer earning a meager amount of Rs. 2500/ month. Ataullah narrates his story himself “I have 6 children. 4 daughters and 2 sons out of which my three daughters are completely handicapped. They were in good health till the age of 5 and then their hands and feet started to cripple and now they’re completely handicapped, unable to do anything.We also noticed whiteness in their eyes and ultimately their vision started to drop and now they can barely see anything which has aggravated their condition and they weep and whine all day long." Upon asking the poor father replied, ‘I could never take my daughters for medical check up as I could not afford it. I have always had so little money in my pocket that I could not think beyond providing food for my family.”
The recent floods added to his misery. His entire village Dadu was submerged in water and till date he says there is 7 feet of standing water there. He was compelled to go to Kotri leaving behind his house in District Dadu, Sind. Displaced with his three handicapped daughters leaves one wondering how is he managing things Living in a camp and waiting to return home, the family was in despair as it was very difficult to manage his three disabled daughters in a new environment.
One day good news finally came their way. A medical team from LRBT hospital visited their camp for a medical checkup. Upon checking his three daughters, the doctor diagnosed developmental cataract in their eyes. To their surprise the team also arranged transport to send them to Karachi hospital for their surgery. Upon reaching the Korangi hospital the three young girls were thoroughly examined, which was a difficult task keeping in view their condition. All three of them were operated under general anesthesia.
The surgery certainly could not restore their complete vision as they had cataracts at birth that must be operated by the age of 6 for a complete cure, however, they are now able to see to a great extent. Seeing the joy on both parents face showed all how relieved they were to watch their daughters being able to see. Overjoyed and with tearful eyes the father told us, “We have seen very little happiness in life since my children have turned disabled one by one. You cannot imagine what this surgery means to us. My daughters will now be able to feed themselves and will be much less frustrated as they would be able to see us around them. LRBT hospital has turned out to be a blessing for poor like myself and I have no words to express my feelings for the joy they have brought to my daughters’ miserable life”.
