This project will scale-up our innitiative of establishing WATER STATIONS for resource-poor community in Tanzania/Africa. Your contribution will help to establish new water station(s) that can serve up to 100 people per each fiter. Each water station is run by a Local Entrepreneurs who, beside helping reduce water-borne diseases in our community, also generate profit from this business. This Low-cost Sustainable water filter won The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation - By Dr. Askwar Hilonga
70% of Tanzanians are struggling with the lack of clean and safe drinking water (WHO 2012 Report). This has led to prevalence of water-borne diseases which lead to poor health, unhappy families, and untimely deaths, particularly for children under 5 years. In all cases, mothers are the mostly affected group since (beside their daily household commitments) they have to boil drinking water and/or take care of sick family members.
We have established water stations operated by the Local Entrepreneurs. So each entrepreneur reach his/her own community while making profit from selling safe and safe drinking water. This is a win-win for an entrepreneur and his/her community. Establishing more water stations will help us reach more people in Tanzania and even grow beyond Tanzania - because drinking water challenge is shared in all developing countries.
Families will be healthier and save economic loss due to water-borne diseases and death; they will preserve environment because they don't need to cut trees for boiling water. The local entrepreneurs on the other hand will generate income to provide for their families and may scale-up their business to higher levels.
