Norton and Jonas benefit from funding

Fins and Snorkel equipment for Jonas and Norton
Fins and Snorkel equipment for Jonas and Norton

We would like to express a heartfelt THANK YOU to our funders. Donations are helping to fund swimming lessons, snorkelling gear and data collection education for TWO of our Mozambican staff, Jonas Jacinto Chambo and Norton Amilton Cossa. Both have marine-based degrees awarded by Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo. Jonas studied Oceanography, and Norton studied Marine geology.

Their skills in science have been infinitely useful to contribute towards the data collection, conservation efforts and raising awareness for school kids locally and internationally during their employment with All Out Africa Marine Centre. Next up is to help develop their swimming skills and equip them with snorkelling gear, so that they can collect more data in situ with our Mozambican whale sharks, dolphins and our other water-surface wildlife.

Norton says;

I am Norton Amilton, from Maputo, Mozambique I studied marine geology at Universidade
Eduardo Mondlane.
My love with marine sciences is strong. My passion with the ocean is great and I like what many

organizations do here in Tofo to protect our marine environment and megafauna species. It was great time with
All Out Africa Marine Research exploring the ocean and getting experience of marine
sciences with so inspired people and staff. I had the opportunity to learn some
method of making data collections and monitoring behaviors of some mammals in
the ocean.

  • I learned ways to
         monitor megafauna species through data collection
  • I had a chance to
         improve my swimming and snorklling in the Ocean Safari

It’s has been a pleasure getting more experience, meeting new people, culture and
making difference for a better Tofo.
