The project will be implemented in Kitgum district. The goal of the project is to improve the livestock level of 500 farm families in five (5) communities in Kitgum district. The interventions will be aimed at; food security and nutrition improvement of the target beneficiaries, improving soil fertility and enhance productivity of urban and rural agriculture.
The war in North part of Uganda in the last decade brought untold suffering to the people and the in the North the people are still suffering since they are yet resettling in their homes and recovering from the past events of the war. - Livestock (small ruminants), which were owned by participants, have been completely looted by the rebels during the war. - There is no livestock available within the communities. - Access to livestock is limited because of lack of funds.
HIO will ensure every household get animals for the start as well as training them on how to handle the project, protect the animals from being at the early stage and reduce malnutrition and increase livestock cows, goats, sheep and pigs available for 500 farms families
The program expects to have an impact on the nutritional status and household and individual incomes for people involved in the animal production. The project will impact positively on the health of individuals and the community
