Our project gives children with special needs a chance to be supported by tutors, ABA specialists and paraprofessionals in state comprehensive school and preschool environment due to the total absence of such practice in current legislation. Children experiencing challenges in learning desperately need inclusive education.
Autism, as a permanent condition and not an illness, started to be recognized in Russia just recently. There is no family support, and inclusive education systems don't work at full capacity. Schools cannot correctly accommodate students with special needs; teachers lack the necessary skills and knowledge and parents of typically developing kids act against inclusive education. The problem is the absence of an inclusive education system within the state schools.
The goal of our project is to make authorities and communities see that children with special needs, including those with ASD and challenging behavior can be educated in the mainstream system. It is a considerable amount of work for all stakeholders, but the results worth doing it and worth financing it because it gives a chance to people with autism and other special needs to be included and accepted in the social life.
Our goal is to change the mindset of common people, to awake the tolerance, acceptance, and diversity in modern Russian society. We are using an educational edge technique while developing a new professional and scientific area - Applied Behaviour Analysis. We hope to include more than 400 children by 2020.
