We are very pleased to announce that our Excellence in HIV/AIDS Health Care Program (EHAHC) has officially started! We are working in cooperation with a Ghanian doctor who is employed by one of the top medical facilities in the capital, Accra. This doctor will be traveling to Kpando once a month to complete checkups on all of the persons who are enrolled in our EHAHC program. Under the doctor's guidance 4 of our teenagers living at HardtHaven and 6 of our sponsored women will be starting on some of the most effective AIDS medications available globally (Atripal and Truvada).
The doctor made his first visit to Kpando on October 18th. We have set aside one of the rooms in our new facility as his examination room. He spent over 5 hours completing his very thorough initial evaluations of the 10 persons that will be starting on the top of the line AIDS medication (ARV’s) as well as an additional 2 children living with HIV/AIDS. The management of HardtHaven met with the Doctor before and after his evaluations to discuss the ways that we can aid him in providing our adolescents and sponsored women the best health care possible.
We have put in the request for the first 6 month supply of ARV medication from Gilead Sciences and it is our hope that the medication will arrive in Ghana in time for the doctor’s second visit in one months’ time. This program is an enormous step forward in providing our teenagers and sponsored women living with HIV/AIDS a longer, healthier and fuller life. We are incredibly grateful to all of those who have helped make this program a reality!
