Summary

In Colombia, many children are mistreated daily. With this program, 100 children from 6 to 15 years of age at risk of vulnerability receive attention, love, food, school support, psychosocial support, recreation, health, sports activities and guidance to families, to keep them safe from others street hazards, child labor or any other type of abuse or mistreatment. They receive all the attention and love they deserve to develop life tasks and guidance, through an after school care program.

Challenge

Inequality in Colombia has remained high and stagnant since the 90's. Opportunities are limited for children from low-income backgrounds. High school drop-out rate, remains at 50%. According to a recent OECD report only 37% of the population ages 17-21 were enrolled in higher education in 2010. High school drop-out rates and low school enrollment rates for Colombian youth are a result of income, and job opportunity inequality.

Solution

The project will level the field for underserved Colombian youth by providing an after-school program supporting youth with their school work and allowing them to discover and build their dreams through art and sports' based extracurricular activities. Moving children away from life on the street, the risks of consumption of psychoactive substances and school desertion

Long-Term Impact

The project will reduce-reduce school drop-out rate, higher education enrollment rates and empower and prepare them to thrive. 100 children will directly benefit from the project, and their families (approximately 400 people ) will also be impacted.
