Progress Report: School Library for Kids

By Anisur Rahman | Project Coordinator

Overview
The Let’s Set Up a School Library for Vulnerable Kids project aims to address the lack of educational resources in schools located in climate change-affected areas of Bangladesh. By establishing a fully functional library, we strive to enhance literacy, promote learning, and empower children with knowledge and skills to overcome challenges posed by poverty and environmental changes.

Activities During the Reporting Period
No new activities were undertaken during this reporting period due to a lack of funds to implement additional components of the project. However, we remain committed to the vision of establishing a school library and providing children with essential educational resources.

Progress from the Previous Reporting Period
In the last reporting period, we utilized available funds donated by a generous supporter to provide one ceiling fan for the library space. This modest yet meaningful contribution has improved the learning environment for students, making the space more comfortable and conducive to study.

Challenges
The primary challenge continues to be a lack of funding, which has delayed:

  • Procurement of books, furniture, and digital resources for the library.
  • Training sessions for teachers and librarians on library management and literacy promotion.
  • Engagement activities with the local community to foster support for the library.

Future Plans
To advance this initiative, we plan to:

  1. Actively seek funding opportunities through grants, sponsorships, and individual contributions.
  2. Collaborate with local stakeholders to identify and secure additional resources.
  3. Develop a phased implementation plan to set up the library incrementally as funds become available.
  4. Continue to engage with the school and local community to sustain interest and support for the project.

Conclusion
While progress on the Let’s Set Up a School Library for Vulnerable Kids project has been slow due to financial constraints, the completion of even a small milestone—installing a ceiling fan—reflects the potential impact of this initiative. We remain hopeful and determined to provide the school with a fully functional library that will empower children to build a brighter future through education and literacy.

We deeply appreciate the support of our donors and stakeholders and invite others to join us in making this dream a reality.
