Progress Report: Let's Set up a School Library for

By Mohummad Kamrul Hassan | Member, Board of Directors

Reporting Period: (May 2024 – August 2024)
Organization: Green Fundi Initiative (GFI-), New York, USA

Local Partner in Bangladesh: Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation and Social Services Centre (BCSSC)

Project Overview:
In January 2024, during a visit to a school in Bangladesh, students expressed the need for a library, highlighting the lack of basic resources such as books and furniture. In response, the Green Fund Initiative (GFI), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation and Social Services Center (BCSSC), launched a project to establish a fully equipped school library. The goal is to provide essential educational materials, promote literacy, and create a key learning center for the students in a climate-impacted region. By fostering a positive learning environment, the project aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Objective:
The objective of the project is to create a fully functional school library in an area of Bangladesh affected by climate change. The library will act as a central resource hub, offering essential learning materials, encouraging literacy, and serving as a key educational facility. Additionally, the initiative will promote a love for learning while raising environmental awareness among students, empowering them with skills for academic growth and future success.

Activities:
In collaboration with BCSSC, GFI distributed a ceiling fan to the school  library to help combat the extreme summer heat, where temperatures can reach 40°C and beyond. The fan, costing $35-$40, was provided to improve the comfort of students in the library, ensuring they can study in a more conducive environment even during hot weather conditions.

Next Steps:
The project will continue to focus on equipping the library with books, furniture, and other educational resources, while expanding student engagement in environmental and literacy programs.
