Lets make America green Again

by Barak Source For Learning

Summary

This project starts in March during the annual creek week and will end in early August after camp. Our project begins with Water sampling and monitoring that is ongoing throughout Spring and Summer and will teach youth and adults about our precious water sheds and ground water. The project will include several clean ups in and around the Northeast creek which is a water source for several communities in Durham, Raleigh and surrounding counties. This creek leads as far as the Atlantic Ocean.

Challenge

A watershed is the land area that drains water and the pollution it carries to a specific water body. Most of the creeks in Durham begin within the city. Because of this, the everyday activities of residents and businesses play an important role in how clean our creeks are. Since Durham sits on top of a ridge, storm water runs down either side of the ridge into a major river basin. Waters in the southwest of Durham generally flow to Jordan Lake (a potential source for our drinking water),

Solution

This project hopes to solve the problem by increasing awareness of youth and adults in our community on how they can help from their own homes and communities in keeping our country Green and flourishing with nature and wild life. Or goal is to also equip participants with the capacity to be able to help in small ways like a clean or larger ways such as advocacy. Our program will also help bring STEM topics to life in our own back yards.

Long-Term Impact

Our long term effect is to raise our grade of 77 to a higher grade and remove us from any negative listing in water and wild life control. As you can see from our what is the problem description helping along the Northeast creek would positively effect scores of communities and countless amount of people, animals and plants. this project will help preserve a wetland and Creek. Our goal is to also have a ongoing water monitoring class and environmental outings for youth interested in STEM project
