This project will help make WomensLaw.org mobile-friendly, making legal information and help available to domestic violence victims through their mobile devices.
Every day there are hundreds of thousands of domestic violence victims in court representing themselves in custody, divorce and protection order proceedings. Women often have no option other than facing an abuser alone in court. Due to a lack of legal representation for survivors of domestic violence, many victims turn to the Internet to learn about the law and about their legal rights. However, victims who need the information may not be able to easily or safely access a computer.
Making WomensLaw.org mobile friendly will allow many more victims of abuse to access the critical information they need, when they need it, to escape an abusive situation. Many people rely on tablets or smartphones to access the Internet. As one of the most recommended legal resources for victims of domestic violence and an incredible source of state-specific information in both English and Spanish, it is important to provide a user-friendly interface for victims to access legal help.
Every week, WomensLaw gets messages from victims who have been helped by the information we provide through our website and email Hotline. Our goal is to make WomensLaw.org easily accessible, so that we can reach even more domestic violence victims who are on the path to becoming survivors. In a world that is becoming more mobile-centered, we need to keep up with technology in order to keep victims informed of their rights and the resources available to get out of an abusive relationship.
