Inspite of governments ever increasing investments in the improvements of the lives of youth, through education (non) programs, most have failed to reach their potential. They are not creative/innovative, very dependent, unemployed, lose jobs easily (no employability skills), drop out of school, and many cannot start and grow any small enterprises. Our Learn, Grow and Thrive program will holistically and psychologically empower 300 participants with alternative ways of solving this issues.
The low levels of livelihood of subsistence farmers of Gatyanga, Kyakatabazi and Nyabwina villages in Rwimi Town council, Bunyangabu district has led to increased dropout and unemployment rates. With their limited skills, chances of living a decent life as adults is very slim and end up becoming gamblers, thieves, prostitutes, young parents, migrate, for them to survive in a community that seems to be a thriving economically in this district.
We have partnered with three government primary schools (Gatyanga, Kyakatabazi and Nyabwina) where: 1. We shall teach a supplementary course to youth aged 11-19 yrs for one year. The themes are Agriculture (non agric) WASH,HIV/AIDS through projects based learning and learner centered techniques. They will visit successful farmers and business w(men) in these villages for mentoring. 2. Train parents in income generating activities, to boost their incomes thus pay fees for children.
(300)150 Youth will be able to develop an independent mind and shall be inspired to start thier own initiatives, they will also acquire employability skills thus be able to use them in their own enterprises or future careers. Reduction in house hold poverty as most youth will be able to meet some basic needs.
