Moremi Initiative intends to establish 10 girls' clubs and build the leadership capacity of 200 girls within schools in marginalized areas in the Greater Accra Region. Empowering girls with leadership skills will give them the capacity to lead change and design solutions to issues facing them, their peers and their communities. Among others, violence, reproductive health and financial issues.
Within the Greater Accra Region, Moremi Initiative has identified three obstacles that make school girls feel unsafe in the school environment and vulnerable to emotional, physical and sexual violence: 1) lack of safe spaces for girls to discuss challenges due to stigma, ignorance and other pressures associated with puberty and sexual reproductive health; 2) huge gaps and lack of capacity and relevant resources to deal with harassment issues; and 3) lack of support and peers' solidarity
The overall objective of the project is to equip school girls with leadership skills to enable them face these challenges without compromising their education.Through these activities and programs, girls from marginalized areas can have options for leadership growth, personal development and capacity-building. Strategies will combine the establishment of 10 School Girls' Clubs, leadership training, communication and advocacy training, reproductive health and financial education.
We are positive that this program will benefit 200 girls who will be empowered to raise their voices and serve as effective change agents. In addition, the project will empower girls economically by equipping them with relevant skills for income-generating activities.
