The difference you've made in Zimbabwe in 100 days
By Dalumuzi H. Mhlanga - Founder and CEO
In the 100 days since the end of the April 2012 Global Giving Challenge, you have made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of Zimbabwean youth. Over the last three months, Lead Us Today has laid a solid foundation for its programs for the next year, starting in September. Also, we have wrapped up operations for our 2011/2 programs cycle with great projects from the clubs. Here are some of the highlights:
We recruited a committed, vibrant, diverse and experienced group of sixteen mentors who will train, guide and support the 300+ students in our 2012/3 programs cycle.
During the entire month of July, mentors went through an intensive training program that equipped them with the skills to work effectively with students.
The current group of students worked tirelessly on their projects.
On the 7th of July, students from Nkulumane High School made a presentation on recycling to over forty older members of their community and Bulawayo’s mayor. Building from that presentation, they will bring together young and old people to recycle.
On the 28th of July, students from Sizane High School organized a sports gala that attracted over 75 youth from the school’s surrounding community. The teams that participated committed to start more sports teams that will provide unemployed youth with productive means of using their time and a platform to organize them so they can devise sustainable community projects.
Students from Christian Brothers’ College assisted in the running of a night school that teaches 120 students every night of the working week and sourced audio material worth $500 for the city’s only library for the blind.
In recognition of the caliber of students that we train, Jonathan Davies and Tatenda Madzorera were selected to represent Zimbabwe at the Global Young Leaders Conference in the US from the 29th of July 2012 to the 8th of August 2012. We are proud of them and look forward to what they will contribute when they return from their rich experience.
All of this is thanks to you. To date, we have raised $7,300 of our $10,000 goal on Global Giving. If you would like to donate and help us reach our target, please do so today by following this link: http://goto.gg/10145
